Winter Frost Quilt

Winter Frost comes together using the Hourglass Block and Economy Block. Together these 2 simple blocks make a stunning quilt. The quilt is made using 8” blocks and finishes at 88.5” x 104.5”, perfect for a queen size bed. Don’t you just love how Quilts & More stylized this bedroom shot with the quilt. It looks so inviting, especially on a cold winter day.

To get this rich blue and teal look, I used the Speckled fabric line by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Ruby Star Society. The quilt might read like a solid from a distance but it is full of fabulous paint splatter texture that takes it to the next level (thank you, gold paint splatter!). Only 4 fabrics are needed to complete this quilt. For this quilt, I used Teal Navy, Teal, Turquoise, and White Gold fabrics but it would be great in so many other colorways.

A big thank you goes out to Heather Matanock of Blue Turtle Quilting. She did an awesome job long arm quilting this beauty. We selected a quilt pattern called Malachite by Patricia E. Ritter to quilt an all over design and I think it fits the quilt perfectly. I love how the irregular curves of the design soften the hard edges of the quilt blocks. And the teal color thread – icing on the cake! Be sure to check out Heather’s work if you’re looking for a long arm quilter in the Madison, WI area.

More about the Winter Issue

Let me tell you, I’ve flipped through the Winter 2021 issue of Quilts & More magazine (more than once I must say) and I can’t decide which project to start first. In addition to several quilt projects, you’ll find other projects including Christmas pillows, a tote bag, and table runner. In fact, there are over 20 quilting projects for you to choose from. With just under 4 weeks to go until Christmas that leaves you plenty of time to make a little something for yourself, a friend, or family member. If you haven’t picked up your copy of Quilts & More, don’t hesitate, it’s only available for a limited time.
